Aaron Toland, a high school student from Dayton, enrolled in Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) in 2014 looking for a more individualized approach to his education. Since switching from a traditional classroom setting, Aaron believes he has become a more confident student.
“I like how flexible [OCA] is. I’m able to work ahead if I want or adjust my class schedule for the day if I have an appointment or other things going on,” Aaron said. “I feel like I’m more engaged in my classes.”
Aaron’s positive approach to his learning was recently recognized when he was selected as one of Ohio Connections Academy’s Star Students of the Month. He was nominated by three of his teachers, all of whom described him as a student who makes his teachers’ work a little easier.

“We tend to overlook the students who are already responsible and doing their job without constant reminders from the teachers,” said ninth grade teacher Heather Buckley. “Aaron is that rare student who does his lessons every day, attends LiveLesson® sessions regularly, and maintains great grades. He even goes the extra mile and contacts his teachers when he experiences difficulties in his classes.”
