John

Middle School Student

John is a sixth grader at Ohio Connections Academy. He began attending the school after his local district decided to no longer offer students an online option. He has performed with BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, and needs the flexibility that Ohio Connections Academy offers, so that he can manage his school schedule around his rehearsal and performance schedule.

According to John

“What I like most about Connections Academy is the flexibility. I can do school on my own schedule, which lets me do other things I love, like performing in the ballet.

I can end school early or skip a day if I must be at the theatre all day for rehearsal and performances. I sometimes have to do lessons on the weekends or at night, but I don’t feel like I’m behind the rest of the class or missing out. I don’t have to wake up at 6:00 a.m. like my friends in traditional school, and I’m usually done before them anyway because I don’t have a bunch of extra homework.

I enjoyed the start-of-the-year picnic, where I got to meet some teachers and students in my classes. That’s how I found out that some kids in my ballet class are also attending Ohio Connections Academy, and now we’re friends.”

Art, Science, and Field Trips

John said his dad helps make sure he stays on track with his schoolwork, even if it means doing a lesson after dinner or on the weekend. His favorite subject is art, and he also enjoys learning about science. One of his favorite things about Ohio Connections Academy is the field trips the school hosts around the state.

John appreciates the support he receives from his teachers to stay on track during his busy rehearsal schedule. He knows he can ask them questions and get help whenever he needs it.

I like the flexibility of this school and that I can work at my own pace without interruptions.
