Preparing Online School Students for Graduation in Ohio

Ohio Connections Academy works closely with families to ensure that students understand graduation requirements in Ohio and have the support they need to fulfill those requirements. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom—long after graduation.

EARN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA IN OHIO

Students who attend online school and meet Ohio graduation requirements receive the same diploma as their peers who attend brick-and-mortar public schools in the state.

How Many Credits Do You Need to Graduate High School in Ohio?

Students must successfully earn a minimum of 21 credits to graduate. A minimum of 5 credits must be earned at OCA, and at least 1.5 credits must be earned in the semester immediately prior to graduation. In addition, students must be enrolled in OCA full-time and not in any other program in the semester prior to graduation. Be sure to check your school handbook for updates. The course credits required to graduate are included below.

Ohio Connections Academy High School Credit Requirements

  • Language arts: 4 credits 
  • Math: 4 credits (including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and/or an Algebra 2 equivalent course)
  • Science: 3 credits (including Physical Science, Biology and an Advanced Science)
  • Social studies: 3 credits (including U.S. History, 0.5 credit Modern World History, 0.5 credit Social Studies elective and American Government) 
  • Physical education: 0.5 credit 
  • Health: 0.5 credit 
  • Personal Finance: 0.5 credit 
  • Fine Arts: 1 credit  
  • 4.5 Additional credits of electives are required 
  • Other testing and diploma seal requirements determined by cohort year, as defined by the Ohio Department of Education. 
JOB OPPORTUNITIES AFTER GRADUATION

Students have the opportunity to prepare for the workforce by working with their counselor to access resources on the OhioMeansJobs website.
