Why I Chose Ohio Connections Academy
The main reason I chose this school was because it offered more Advanced Placement® courses than my brick-and-mortar school.* It also offered many opportunities to take college courses through the state’s College Credit Plus program. My teachers and advisors were incredibly helpful.
I became interested in robotics in second grade when I watched demonstrations. I was fascinated and curious about how robots worked. This led me to join an international robotics competition, called For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST®).
My Online School Experience
I liked sharing my passion for science and technology with younger students, especially my excitement for robots. I arranged for a robotics demonstration to introduce students to the FIRST program that inspired me. A seventh-grade student I met that day discovered her own interest in science and technology and became a key member of the robotics team.
I also enjoyed volunteering and mentored three other robotics teams in the area made up of students who might not otherwise have had the opportunity. Two of those teams consisted of Rwandan refugees. The third team had students with learning disabilities.
Going to college was the best way to pursue my passion and dreams. Before graduation, I was accepted to several schools, including Ohio State University, Purdue University, Miami University, the University of Dayton, and Xavier University. In addition, I earned a fair amount in scholarship offers. When I decided I wanted to go to college, my family had no idea where to turn or what to do. Ohio Connections Academy was the answer.
