Sophia is a sixth grader at Ohio Connections Academy. She came to the online school this year in search of a consistent learning environment. Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, there was uncertainty about what her learning experience would look like at the traditional brick-and-mortar school she previously attended. Sophia shares more below.
Why I Chose Ohio Connections Academy
I love the fact that I am able to work at my own pace at Ohio Connections Academy. I feel like I have more freedom to choose what I work on first each day. This allows me to spend more time on things I don’t understand. I also like the fact that I’m able to take field trips during the week with my family and work school around it. My teachers make learning fun, and if I don’t understand a lesson, I can take as much time as I need instead of feeling rushed.
My Online School Experience
Even though this is my first year at Ohio Connections Academy, I feel very positive about my experience so far. Ohio Connections Academy helps me because I love the teacher support that I get through LiveLesson® sessions and recordings. In my spare time, I play soccer and take ballet and musical theater lessons. I also enjoy playing the piano.
Sophia’s science teacher, Maria Walls, nominated her to be one of Ohio Connections Academy’s Star Students of the month for November in recognition of her hard work and determination to succeed in the online classroom.
Sophia has had an amazing start to the school year. She has been working hard to understand how to navigate all of Ohio Connections Academy’s lessons, classes, and instructional sites,” Ms. Walls said. “What really makes Sophia stand out is that she broke her nose during her theatre show. She had surgery and was back in to classes the very next day. Sophia did not let her injury stop her motivation to do well and try super hard in her studies.
