Jessica Remmes

Math Teacher

Jessica Remmes is a middle and high school math teacher at Maine Connections Academy (MCA). She earned her bachelor of science degree in mathematics and pre-professional secondary education and her master of arts degree in teaching from James Madison University. Ms. Remmes began her teaching career in 2010 and joined MCA in 2016. Learn more about her story below.

After a year of teaching, Ms. Remmes took two years off to play professional soccer in France. She began teaching again at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and then spent three years at the British Ski Academy in Les Houches, France, as the math instructor for gifted ski racers. Ms. Remmes helped the racers keep up with their school work while they were away training with their club and country.

When asked what she likes about teaching at Connections Academy, Ms. Remmes said, “The teachers at MCA consistently and willingly work and support each other. Since it’s a small school, it’s very easy to collaborate with other teachers about student needs. Additionally, our student body and teaching staff are very diverse, which creates more room for students and teachers to be able to learn from one another.

"The teachers at MCA consistently and willingly work and support each other."

— Ms. Remmes

While online schools can sometimes be misinterpreted as ‘the easy option,’ it is important for parents and students to know that our courses are quite challenging. Students at MCA have to work hard in order to be successful.

Outside of school, Ms. Remmes enjoys spending time with her family and her dog. She enjoys hiking, camping and swimming, kayaking and outdoor sports. Although Ms. Remmes enjoys all genres of music, her favorite is alternative. Her perfect day would include a good book and a hammock.
