Jolene Davis serves as Learning Coach to her middle school son, who attends Georgia Connections Academy (GACA). She says learning with GACA has been a “win-win” experience for her son. Learn about how well GACA has worked for her family below:
“My name is Jolene Davis, and I am the Learning Coach for my son Chase, who is in middle school. We enrolled with Georgia Connections Academy in November 2011. We love the staff as well as the other families, but for us, seeing our son excel and become passionate about learning says so much about the teachers and atmosphere of this online program. We are over the moon about Georgia Connections Academy and all that it offers to our son—and to me as his Learning Coach. My son’s teachers, past and present, have always made me feel connected and supported. I have no doubt that his future teachers will do the same.
We also enjoy the field trips, as they are always amazing and well planned. Since our son has been enrolled at GACA, we have traveled more throughout Georgia than we ever would have if we were still with a bricks-and-mortar school.

What I love most about GACA is my child’s ability to learn from home—and, of course, the support that is always available from his teachers. I know that he is safe, eating well, and not distracted or bored in class. It has been a win–win situation for us. I will say that initially I was concerned, as most parents would be, that our son might somehow miss the socialization aspect of school because he was learning at home. I have found, however, that this could not be farther from the truth. We are actually more socially involved now than we were when he was in the local bricks-and-mortar school. We take advantage of the many monthly field trips that GACA plans; our son is involved in our church’s youth program and scouting program; and he has more time to spend with neighborhood friends instead of being tied up all night doing homework.
I admit that it was a little scary when we were deciding to enroll our son in an online program. The unknown is usually frightening. But each day has been such an amazing experience. Day after day, my child learns more and more, and I get to be a part of that and watch his immediate excitement about learning something new. How many parents get to experience that? Our children are only young once, and the fact that GACA allows me to be an even bigger part my child’s growth makes every memory that much sweeter.”
