Meet Our Utah Connections Academy School Leader
My Name is Jeffrey Herr, and I am the principal for Utah Connections Academy. I have been an educator for more than 25 years because I believe in Thomas Jefferson’s philosophy that a well-educated citizenry is the foundation of a successful society. I am an absolutely true believer in virtual and blended education and believe these models can best prepare students for the future. I am a teacher at heart and love the relationship that students and teachers are able to build as they work together to reach new academic and intellectual heights.
I have been married to the lovely Debbie for over 32 years and we have 4 adult children and 5 grandchildren! I earned a bachelor’s degree in European history from Weber State University and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Utah. Make no mistake-I am a Ute fan to my very Crimson core! I have also been a Die Hard Chicago Cubs fan my entire life having grown up near Chicago, Illinois.
I taught in Weber School District and was an administrator for the Salt Lake City School District in both traditional and charter schools for the district.
I served as a Fulbright Scholar in 2006, studying education in Brno, Czech Republic. Prior to coming to Utah Connections Academy, I worked for 5 years as Senior Director of the GCC for a company in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that managed private, fully accredited, virtual and blended international schools.
"I love the ownership of their education that a student has at Utah Connections Academy (UCA). The flexibility in our school allows a student to learn anywhere and at any time. Parent involvement is at the core foundation of our school and I appreciate how valuable parents are as members of our team. UCA allows students to be the most powerful learners they can be and prepares them well to be tomorrow’s leaders!"
