Middle School Teacher

Dottie Brereton started teaching in 2008 and is a math interventionist for students in seventh and eighth grades. According to Ms. Brereton, “Being an interventionist is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever taken on.

The Online School Experience at Utah Connections Academy

“I love helping students [understand] concepts that may have eluded them in the past,” reports Ms. Brereton. “The ‘lightbulb’ moment is my favorite [experience] in all of teaching. Being an online teacher has been a journey of growth. Getting to know my students has been the best part [of that journey] … because we’re online, we’ve found new ways to connect.

“I’d like parents considering Utah Connections Academy to know that this school is here to support and help their student succeed, but we can’t do it alone. We need parents to support and be part of their student’s educational journey. Students will need to be present and willing to work each and every day, but they are not alone, and the school as a whole is here to help.”

Ms. Brereton’s Personal Interests

“My life is full of goodness. I have a husband, two children, and two in-laws I call my bonus kids. I love being with them every chance I get. Outside of school I enjoy shooting clay, kayaking, and just being free to wander in the hills. I am a wife, mom, mother-in-law, teacher, and soon to be grandma. I couldn’t ask for anything more,” she says.

“I feel connected with my students as we have become part of each other’s lives.”
