Why I Became an Educator

When I was young, I would play school all the time and always imagined being a teacher. Originally, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, but that changed as I got to college and wanted to combine business with teaching. My first experience with advising was helping my brother get his bachelor’s degree by mapping out his classes for him. I was only 20 at the time and I already had my bachelor’s degree. I loved being able to put the pieces together like a puzzle and help him reach his goal.

The Online School Experience at Utah Connections Academy

There are so many things I love about working with students online. I’m able to build strong connections with them and help those who are going through rough times. There are rewarding moments when students send you a message thanking you for all you do.

No matter what a student’s direction in life, they need a strong education and foundation. So many students don’t see the value of school and in putting in the time necessary to graduate. I don’t know anyone who ever regretted graduating. On the flip side, I know a lot of people who regret not toughing it out and putting in the time.

To any family thinking of joining Connections Academy, I would say come check us out. Education is not a one-size-fits-all thing. Find what works for your student and watch them succeed. Learning Coaches need to be invested in and committed to helping their students every day. With all of us working together, we can accomplish great things

My Personal Interests

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching crime and medical dramas, and attending my children’s sporting events. I have five kids, and we’ve hit every sport — football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, tumbling, dance, and vaulting. It keeps us busy year-round.
