Mark

Learning Coach

Mark is a father and Learning Coach to his two children, Mark Jr. and Kayla. With the spread of COVID-19, he looked for alternative online school options for his children. Since joining Connections Academy®, Mark has enjoyed the engaging curriculum, supportive teachers, and the ability to monitor his children’s progress.

Why We Chose Tennessee Connections Academy

At the beginning of the 2020–2021 school year, COVID-19 was rampant, and my wife and I were concerned with how our 4th grade and 10th grade students would continue to get a quality education during the pandemic. We weren’t comfortable with them going back in the classroom, and our local school board didn’t have a handle on the situation.

I saw a commercial for Connections Academy and thought how great it would be if our children could stay home, be safe, stay up to date with their studies, and maintain their grades—all while receiving a quality education.

Our Online School Experience

The school has an action plan to help both the child and the Learning Coach succeed. The level of communication is superb, and the instruction and partnership between teachers and parents/Learning Coaches are excellent. Although remote, you feel more connected to the community than at your local brick-and-mortar school.

The lessons are challenging, which holds students’ attention. They’re interactive and require full use of today’s technology and computer applications. Online school gives kids flexibility and independence in their studies, which teaches them time-management skills and how to prioritize their tasks every day.

Finding the right school has been one of the highlights of raising our children. It’s a decision we’ll forever be proud of when we consider the level of education our children are receiving at Connections Academy.

Favorite Learning Coach Activities

Our children are outgoing, studious, and love school. Like any 4th grade student, my son, Mark, enjoys outdoor activities, such as football, basketball, and bike riding. Completing his daily tasks lets him get out and do the things he loves. We often attach incentives to his success with certain tasks. Mark’s physical education class consists of an activity log, which allows him to get credit for doing things like bike riding, jumping on the trampoline, and basketball. My 10th grade daughter, Kayla, loves the dress-up days and the activities that come with being a Connections Academy Fox! Both children are encouraged to be active in the LiveLesson® sessions, and to celebrate and comment positively on the work of others.
