Mrs. Carolyn Spray

7th Grade Math Teacher

Mrs. Carolyn Spray began her teaching career in 2006, right after graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. This year marks her first with Texas Connections Academy, where she is excited to teach 7th grade math. Over the years, she has taught math across multiple grade levels, from 3rd through 8th, giving her a broad perspective on how students grow as mathematicians.

For Carolyn, teaching has always been a calling. “I have always had a passion for teaching and working with children,” she says. One of the most rewarding parts of her work is seeing those “ah hah” moments when a student finally connects the dots and the lesson clicks. Teaching online brings new opportunities to connect with students one-on-one and watch them learn in the comfort of their own homes.

She also loves bringing creativity into her classroom by personalizing math problems with students’ names or interests. This not only makes lessons more fun but also helps students learn about one another while working through concepts together.

Carolyn also emphasizes the lifelong value of math, explaining: “Although students may not end up using all the math we learn in their career of choice, it does teach them how to learn steps, follow directions, and get the correct outcome. That’s something they’ll need in every job.”

Outside of teaching, Carolyn enjoys baking and decorating sugar cookies, and she cherishes time spent with her two daughters, supporting them in their passions for cheer and dance.

Born and raised in Texas, Carolyn is thrilled to be part of the Texas Connections Acdemy family, where she believes students thrive—whether they need a comfortable at-home learning environment, a flexible schedule for extracurricular activities, or parents who want to take a more active role in their child’s education.
