A Profile in Courage and Determination

Ryan D. started attending Texas Connections Academy in eighth grade after an auto accident with his family left him paralyzed from the waist down. Here, in Ryan’s own words, are some of the recent graduate’s thoughts on attending our school.

“The decision to come to Texas Connections Academy was due to bullying that got pretty bad to where I almost got pushed down a flight of stairs. After that, we decided an in-person public school wasn't really a good fit for me. … We tried a couple of different homeschool programs, then found Texas Connections Academy.”

“One thing I loved about attending Texas Connections Academy was being able to take it anywhere.”

How Our School Fit Ryan’s Needs

“Since this is an online school, I was able to take my schoolwork anywhere — which is important because I travel all around the country for competitions, track meets, training camps, as well as basketball. I attended on-camera LiveLesson® sessions and connected with my teachers, while excelling in my education.

“At Texas Connections Academy, I was able to make friends, socialize, and didn’t have to worry about falling behind and having to come back and catch up on schoolwork. I was able to do it from anywhere. That was really important to me. And it was really fun being able to experience science, social studies, reading, and math from anywhere.”
