Giving a Gymnast the Flexibility She Needed
Nesia Y. graduated from Texas Connections Academy and is now a world-class gymnast at Boise State University. Her mother, Michelle, was her Learning Coach at our school. They have keen insights into why Nesia thrived at our school.
Balancing Athletics and Academics
Michelle says, “Texas Connections Academy was a great fit for our family when we moved from overseas. We came from a rigorous environment, and Nesia first went to a brick-and-mortar public school. Once she decided she wanted to excel in her athletic career, we decided to look for a home-based option, and Texas Connections Academy kept coming up.”
Nesia credits our school’s flexible approach to education for helping her succeed both in gymnastics and in the classroom. “Texas Connections Academy helped me balance my sport and academics by not having set deadlines for most assignments,” she says. “Whenever I was away for a gymnastics competition, I knew I could take a couple days off and be perfectly fine when I returned to school.”
“The two words I would use to describe this school: ‘flexible’ and ‘engaging.’”

Planning for a Career in International Business
Nesia plans to pursue a career in international business and says our school helped prepare her for it. “Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to go into international business. Texas Connections Academy helped solidify that plan by offering classes that relate to the field.”
According to her mom, “Going into international business, Nesia is going to need confidence and strong determination to approach anyone, no matter where she is or who they are. … Texas Connections Academy helped Nesia grow more confident. She had to be accountable for communicating with her teachers independently.
“One piece of advice I would give to any parent considering Texas Connections Academy is to just do it. This school has been so helpful and beneficial to our family. It's flexible. It's convenient. The teachers are engaging. The lessons are engaging. It's very rigorous at the same time. So, if you have any doubt whatsoever, just trust yourself and trust your student and just join.”
“The two words I would use to describe this school: ‘creative’ and ‘compassionate.’”
