Get ready to enroll in online school at Texas Connections Academy, serving grades 3–12. Typically, the enrollment process takes just a few weeks to complete. But spots fill up quickly, so make sure you start as soon as you can. Here's how to get started:

Check Eligibility

Texas Connections Academy students are required to meet specific state and program requirements. Student eligibility requirements are determined by Texas state laws, the Texas Education Agency, and the authorizing school district. Before enrolling, please review the following eligibility requirements carefully. Once your enrollment is confirmed, please immediately withdraw your student from their previous publicly-funded school. Students cannot be simultaneously enrolled in two public schools.

Note: Students who are currently suspended or expelled from their local school or district may not be eligible to enroll.

Immunizations

All students in Texas Connections Academy must provide evidence of their immunizations on either a state of Texas official immunization form an official school record, a healthcare provider or Health Department printout, or an immunization booklet with all doses stamped or signed. These forms must be stamped or signed by a health care provider.

Possible Exemptions for Required Immunizations

Texas allows for medical, personal and religious exemptions. Medical exemptions must be signed by a health care provider. Parents seeking exemption from immunizations for personal or religious reasons must request a vaccine exemption affidavit form in writing by mail, fax (512-776-7544) or a secure online request form from the Department of State Health Services, Immunization Branch.

Prior Schooling Requirements

Students who have an incomplete Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement or Juvenile Justice Alternative Educational Placement are not eligible to enroll until the disciplinary placement has been completed in a brick-and-mortar school.

Texas Connections Academy in partnership with Mineral Wells ISD

A student is eligible to enroll full-time in courses if the student:

attended a public school in Texas for a minimum of six weeks in the current school year or in the preceding school year; or

did not reside in Texas during the preceding school year; or

is a dependent of a member of the United States military who has been deployed; or

has been placed in substitute care in Texas.

Texas Connections Academy in partnership with Houston ISD

A student is eligible to enroll full-time in courses if the student:

attended a public school in Texas in the preceding school year; or
is a dependent of a member of the United States military who has been deployed or transferred to Texas and was enrolled in a publicly funded school outside of Texas in the proceeding school year; or
has been placed in substitute care in Texas, regardless of whether the student was enrolled in a public school in Texas in the preceding year; or
is a dependent of a member of the United States military, was previously enrolled in high school in Texas, and does not reside in Texas due to a military deployment or transfer.

Prior Texas public school enrollment comprises all Texas public school options, including the tuition-based programs at Texas Tech University and the University of Texas (for any number of courses). Please have the following documents available when you are ready to begin the enrollment process.

Child's Proof of Age

A copy of one of the following documents must be provided for every student to verify age eligibility:

Official birth certificate
Passport
Hospital certificate

Not Sure Where to Get That?

If you need a copy of your child's birth certificate, you can order it online through the Texas Department of State Health Services. Please visit the Texas Vital Statistics webpage for more information.

As a reminder, the age eligibility is as follows:

Maximum Age: Any student who turns twenty-one (21) years old before September 1 will not be eligible to enroll in Texas Connections Academy.

Proof of Residence

A copy of one of the following documents must be provided to verify your legal residence. If you do not have any of these documents, please contact the enrollment team to discuss acceptable alternatives.

Utility Bill Gas, electric, water, or sewage bill from the last 60 days that includes your name and service address.
Mortgage statement from the last 60 days or an annual lease agreement.
Rent receipt from the last 60 days
Military Orders

Child's Proof of Immunizations

Child’s Proof of Immunization

All students in Texas Connections Academy must provide evidence of their immunizations on either a State of Texas Official Immunization Form, an official school record, a healthcare provider or Health Department printout, or an immunization booklet with all doses stamped or signed.

Not Sure What Immunizations Are Required?

Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. Pediatricians and family doctors or their nurses or medical assistants can give your student the shots they need to meet the requirements for school enrollment. In addition, some large chain pharmacies offer immunizations for older children and adults.

What if I Need Assistance Paying for Vaccines?

If you need assistance paying for shots/vaccinations, you may be able to get free or reduced immunizations through this program:

Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay. Children who are eligible for VFC vaccines are entitled to receive pediatric vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

Immunization Exemptions

The state of Texas allows for medical, personal, and religious exemption.

Religious Exemption: Parents seeking exemption from immunizations for personal or religious reasons must request a vaccine exemption affidavit form in writing by mail, fax (512-776-7544) or via a secure online request form from the Department of State Health Services, Immunization Branch. This form must be notarized and expires 2 years from the date it is signed.
Medical Exemption: Please submit documentation signed by a healthcare provider if requesting a medical exemption.

Caretaker Proof of Identity

Prior Academic Records

Students across Texas in grades 3-12 are eligible to enroll in Texas Connections Academy. Those who have previously attended public school, private school, or homeschool will be asked to submit academic records for placement.

If your student meets one of these eligibility requirements, please be prepared to submit academic records for placement. These academic records include.

Report Card

For students applying for grades 3–9: Please submit a copy of the report card from the most recent school year.

The following items should be included on the report card:

Unofficial Transcript

For students applying for grades 9–12 before June 1st: Submit an unofficial transcript that includes all grades from when the student started high school, as well as grades from the first semester of the current school year.

For students applying for grades 9–12 after June 1st: Submit an unofficial transcript that includes the final end-of-year grades for the current school year. If enrolling after the new school year has started, submit an unofficial transcript with all high school grades and, if available, the student’s class schedule.

Transcript documentation can be requested by reaching out to the high school's counseling office or, if available, through the student's online gradebook, parent portal, or e-transcript services like Parchment or Naviance. Many high schools also provide information about transcript requests on their website, usually under sections labeled "transcripts," "records office," or "guidance department."

Not Sure How to Get Your Child’s Report Card or Transcript?

Contact your student's previous school and request the document, providing them with the information outlined above, OR contact your school's district office with the request.

If after attempting these steps you still cannot obtain your student's report card or transcript, please contact the academic placement services team at 1-833-591-0251 to discuss acceptable alternatives.

Have Your Child(ren) Been Formerly Homeschooled?

If your children are currently homeschooled, please complete the Prior Academic History Form. This document will be available to you in Pearson Online Classroom.

Prior Academic History Form
For homeschooled students in grades 3–12: Complete the Prior Academic History Form indicating what courses were completed through a homeschool curriculum. This form will be available to you in the Enrollment Portal.
Credit By Exam Scores
If your student is applying for high school, in addition to the Prior Academic History Form, your student will need to submit a Credit By Exam score for each course in which the student would like to receive prior credit. For more information on this requirement, please review the school handbook supplement.

How should I verify that the documents I sent arrived?

After submitting your documents, you can navigate to the Submit Documents section located in the Enrollment Details. There you can see if your documents have been verified or are still waiting to be processed. The Enrollment Details will also show if your file was marked invalid and your document will be removed so that you can upload a new document. If you are unable to verify the status of your documents or have any questions, please call 1-833-591-0251 and contact the Enrollment Team using the document submission option in our phone system. We will check the system to see if the document was received. Please be prepared to provide us with the following information: student’s name, number of pages sent, the date sent, and if sent by fax, the fax number.

Why is the virtual enrollment process different from a physical school?

How does self-enrollment work if I am 18 years old, or older, or am an emancipated minor?

Students who are 18 or over must meet age eligibility requirements in their state. Students must also submit academic documentation of all courses attempted since entering the 9th grade. Academic documentation will be reviewed by a school counselor to determine the student's eligibility to complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment. Students who cannot complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment are not eligible to enroll.

Both emancipated minors and students 18 years and older are required to complete the Parent/Legal Guardian (Caretaker) Acknowledgement (PLCA) form and to provide all required enrollment documentation before the student can enroll. Emancipated minors must also submit court documentation for their emancipation. Please contact the Enrollment Team at 1-833-591-0251 for more information.
