What is Goal Setting

Setting goals is the process of defining an objective or outcome, then developing a plan to achieve that outcome. For example, a student could set a goal of earning a high score on their SATs. They have a desired outcome they want to achieve, and by formally making it a goal, they can develop a plan that can help them achieve that outcome, such as attending study groups, setting aside a certain number of hours each week to study, and taking practice tests.

Goals don’t have to be grand ideas or long-term achievements; even setting small, short-term goals is a great way to help students of all ages learn the process of goal setting.
