Why She Became an Educator
Ms. Lewis decided to become an educator because of her deep desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children, especially those with unique learning needs. Growing up, she witnessed disparities in educational opportunities and felt compelled to be part of the change that ensures all students, regardless of their background, feel seen and supported.
Special education attracted her because it offered the chance to advocate for students with disabilities and help them unlock their full potential. Ms. Lewis has always been passionate about creating equitable learning environments where every child, no matter their challenges, can succeed and thrive.
What Ms. Lewis Enjoys Most About Her Job
The ability to support educators in tailoring education to meet the individual needs of each child is what Ms. Lewis likes most about her job. Whether supporting students with special needs or gifted learners, our school’s online setting allows for a personalized approach to learning.
She values the opportunity to build strong relationships with students and their families, while ensuring teachers have the background knowledge, experience, and resources they need to help students succeed.
The Online Experience at Lowcountry Connections Academy
According to Ms. Lewis, “This school makes sure parents are actively involved in their child’s education through regular updates, personalized meetings, and an open-door policy for ongoing discussions. Teachers and families partner together to create a supportive environment for students, and the school provides various resources that support academic and social-emotional development.”
Ms. Lewis is proud of how the school fosters an atmosphere where every student and family feels valued and connected. She believes our online school offers a level of flexibility traditional brick-and-mortar settings cannot always provide and appreciates how students can learn at their own pace, using a variety of digital tools and resources that cater to different learning styles.
For some students, this environment is less intimidating and more conducive to their individual needs. However, Ms. Lewis also recognizes the unique challenges of online learning, particularly around social interaction and maintaining a sense of community. To address those challenges, she and her colleagues create opportunities for virtual engagement through events, group projects, and one-on-one interactions.
