Why She Became a Teacher
“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher,” says Ms. Sims. “From a young age, I admired my elementary school teachers and dreamed of leading learning just as they did. My journey in education began when my own children were young; I volunteered in their classrooms and served as a policy council president. Over the years, I held various roles in PTA and School Improvement teams, which deepened my commitment to education.
I later worked as a substitute teacher while completing my teacher education program, gaining valuable experience along the way. Since having a classroom of my own, I’ve enjoyed every moment and feel grateful to be doing what I love.”
The Online Experience at Lowcountry Connections Academy
“The most rewarding part of my work here is building strong relationships with my students and their families and witnessing my students’ growth throughout the school year. I love teaching students online because it allows me to engage them in exciting and interactive learning activities. The online format also gives me the time and flexibility to meet each student’s individual needs, ensuring they receive the support and encouragement they deserve.”
How She Fosters Student Engagement
“I make learning relevant by connecting it to real-life experiences, whether they’re from the past or things students can look forward to in the future,” says Ms. Sims. “I always make time for students to share their thoughts and engage in discussions about the content.
“I also use break-out rooms for group work, which allows students to collaborate and interact with each other in a more personal setting. These opportunities help create a sense of community and increase student involvement in the learning process.
“Lowcountry Connections Academy teachers and staff are here to help and are happy to answer your questions and clarify information.”
