Kimberly Sessions
Kindergarten Teacher
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, University of South Carolina Aiken, Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy, Walden University
Kimberly Sessions started her career as a teacher in 2008. In 2020, she joined Lowcountry Connections Academy, where she loves teaching kindergarten.
Why She Became a Teacher
According to Ms. Sessions, “I’ve always enjoyed learning and teaching others what I know. I wanted to make a difference. Knowledge is power.” The most rewarding part of teaching, she says, is “connecting with students and families both online and in person.
“Teaching students online is a unique experience for both students and families. I’ve made stronger connections with families virtually than I ever have teaching in a brick-and-mortar classroom.
“In kindergarten, we love to sing and dance together as we learn educational concepts based on South Carolina state standards. I can always find a cool song to help us learn any concept and if not, we make up our own. The kids love it—and BONUS, they get to see their teacher dance!”
The Online Experience at Lowcountry Connections Academy
“I make strong connections with students and families,” Ms. Session says. “Many times, especially in kindergarten, parents are very concerned about what their child should know coming into kindergarten. I take time with families to educate them on what their child should know, how to get them where they need to be (if not already there), and how to move them forward to meet the objectives outlined throughout the year.
“I’ve come across families and students who have had very difficult and disappointing experiences in brick-and-mortar classrooms. Families want me to know their stories and why they chose virtual education. I’m always happy to listen, support them, and assure them I’ll be there every step of the way.”
What Families Considering This School Should Keep in Mind
“You have to be dedicated and put in the work,” explains Ms. Sessions. “If you’re willing to work hard, stay focused and organized, and stay connected to your teachers, you will be successful.
“Our curriculum meets state standards and provides experiences and opportunities for higher-level thinking. Students also have access to teacher support through on-camera LiveLesson® sessions each week. Students can also schedule individual one-on-one time with teachers as needed.”
“Many students find such comfort working from home at their own pace. Families get to see exactly what they’re learning and can be a part of the process.”
