Kimberly Mickle started teaching in 2012 and joined Lowcountry Connections Academy in 2024. She teaches special education to students in grades 4–8.

Why She Became a Teacher

“I became interested in teaching because my entire family has an educational background,” says Ms. Mickle. “My grandfather was on the school board, my grandmother was a cafeteria worker, my great-grandfather was the janitor, my mom was the computer lab teacher, my auntie was a kindergarten assistant, and my other auntie was a special education teacher.

“The most rewarding part of my work at this school is speaking with my students in one-on-one sessions. My favorite classroom activity is reading aloud with my students and whole-class enrichment gaming. I really enjoy that.”

The Online Experience at Lowcountry Connections Academy

According to Ms. Mickle, “An education at this school can increase students’ social-emotional learning and give them ways to work through struggles they may have away from school.

“I foster student engagement with their courses and encourage interaction between students by having bell ringers. These short activities are completed at the beginning of class and stimulate conversation among students.”

What Families Considering This School Should Keep in Mind

“You have to be dedicated and put in the work,” explains Ms. Sessions. “If you’re willing to work hard, stay focused and organized, and stay connected to your teachers, you will be successful.

“Our curriculum meets state standards and provides experiences and opportunities for higher-level thinking. Students also have access to teacher support through on-camera LiveLesson® sessions each week. Students can also schedule individual one-on-one time with teachers as needed.”

“An education at Lowcountry Connections Academy will help prepare students to be independent and responsible citizens.”
