Why I Became an Educator
I became a teacher because I always knew it was something I wanted to do. Even at a young age, I felt drawn to helping others learn and grow. One of my biggest inspirations was my 4th grade teacher. She made learning meaningful, created a classroom where everyone felt valued, and showed me the kind of impact a teacher can have on a child’s life.
So far in my career, I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. I served as an interventionist for students with characteristics of dyslexia and facilitated teacher learning and student growth as a Literacy Coach for K-4.
Teaching at Arkansas Connections Academy
What I love most about teaching at Arkansas Connections Academy is the opportunity to connect with students and families in meaningful ways. Arkansas Connections Academy allows us to meet students where they are and support them in ways that are personalized to their individual needs.
I also truly value the high caliber of staff at Arkansas Connections Academy. I am surrounded by educators who are passionate, supportive, and committed to doing what is best for students. The collaborative environment makes it a great place to grow professionally while feeling supported as part of a team.
Most importantly, I love the relationships I am able to build with students and families. Even in a virtual setting, those connections are strong and meaningful, and it is rewarding to be part of their educational journey and see their growth and success.
Benefits of Online Learning
One of the biggest benefits of teaching at an online school versus a traditional brick and mortar school is the flexibility it provides for both teachers and students. Online learning allows instruction to be more personalized, giving teachers the opportunity to meet students where they are academically and support their individual needs in meaningful ways.
Teaching in an online environment also creates strong partnerships with families because communication is often more direct and consistent. I have been able to build meaningful relationships with students and parents while helping students grow both academically and personally.
Another benefit is the ability to collaborate with highly qualified educators from different backgrounds and experiences. The online setting encourages innovation, creativity, and problem solving in instruction. While brick and mortar schools offer valuable face to face interaction, online schools provide unique opportunities for flexibility, individualized support, and stronger home school connections that can have a powerful impact on student success.
Community and Connection
What makes the Arkansas Connections Academy school community so special is the strong sense of connection and support among students, families, and staff. Our staff is intentional about building relationships and making sure every student feels seen and valued. Our administration and teachers are highly dedicated and collaborative, always willing to go above and beyond to support one another and students. That shared commitment to student success creates a positive, welcoming environment that feels like a true community.
"Arkansas Connections Academy is a place where students are truly supported as individuals. Students are known, valued, and connected to caring teachers who are committed to their success. Families are active partners in the learning process, and together we work to ensure each student receives the support they need to thrive academically and personally."

Beyond the Virtual Classroom
My husband, John, and I have been married for 19 years, and we have two kids. Most days, especially during the summer, I can be found at the ballpark! I love watching my son and the Razorbacks play baseball! My daughter and I enjoy art and watching movies together. Pearl Jam is my absolute favorite band; and even though it is extremely difficult, my husband and I are New York Mets fans!
