L J Marlett began his teaching career in 2019 and joined Arkansas Connections Academy in 2023. An advisor to students in grades 9–11, he believes this school offers students the opportunity to thrive and excel.
Why I Became a Teacher
“My dream was always to teach music and help kids,” says Mr. Marlett. “I took a non-traditional route to becoming an educator and taught music for four years because I wanted my students to see my passion for music and have the same passion.
“I realized I wanted to do more for my students, and that inspired me to continue my journey in education and become a school counselor.”

Reports Mr. Marlett, “The connections and rapport we have with students at this school are deeper and stronger because they get to receive more one-on-one time … the teachers get to spend more time with each student.
“I love so many things about this school. The bonding, kindness, and relationships among all the educators … the love that just pours out from everyone! It’s the best feeling in the education world … something every student and family should have the chance to experience.”
Students here are able to benefit from a one-on-one experience they wouldn’t normally get in a brick-and-mortar school.

Message for Families Interested in Online School
If there was one thing Mr. Marlett would tell parents thinking of enrolling a child in this school, it would simply be “opportunities.” He believes an education at Arkansas Connections Academy helps prepare students for a bright and successful future by “giving them the opportunity to really focus on their studies and have the flexibility to work on their education.”
Some Personal Interests
Says Mr. Marlett, “I love building Lego sets, traveling with my family, and spending time with my wife and two dogs. I am a huge Star Wars and Disney fan.”
