Kindergarten Teacher

Bachelor’s Degree, Early Childhood Education, University of Arkansas

Kayla Avila began her teaching career in 2016 and joined Arkansas Connections Academy in 2021. She teaches kindergarten and says, “I especially love the connections I’m able to build with students and families.”

Why I Became a Teacher

“I picked this profession because of my fourth-grade teacher,” says Ms. Avila. I still think about his class and the joy he sparked in me and even sent him a thank you letter when I was in college because of the impact he had on me.

“I enjoy my interaction with children and parents, the relationships you build, the engagement and joy found in the small moments, and just being a role model in children’s lives. I want to make sure they always have at least one person in their life to keep them feeling safe, happy, cared about, and rooting for their success!”

The Online School Experience at Arkansas Connections Academy

Reports Ms. Avila, “Teaching online enables me to have more personal connections with students because they’re in their comfortable space at home, able to share their interests. They can show me their favorite things and share their pets and siblings. I’m also able to communicate with parents on a more personal level when we meet virtually.

“Students benefit from having one-on-one time and from the connections that are formed. In a brick-and-mortar school, classroom management can sometimes take priority over learning time and one-on-one time. But not here.”

This school community is special because it gives everyone a sense of belonging, connection, and a place to feel safe and comfortable in a welcoming environment.

Message for Families Interested in Online School

“I’d like parents to know that Arkansas Connections Academy is a welcoming place where their child can not only learn and grow but gain connections and learn skills they may not learn elsewhere.

“An education at this school can not only help students grow academically, but they also learn important skills that will help them in their future — such as technology, problem solving, different forms of communication skills, and more.”

Some Personal Interests

“I live in Centerton, Arkansas, with my husband and almost 3-year-old son,” says Ms. Avila. “I mostly love spending time with family because we’re all so close and many of us live in this area. We have family dinners each Sunday and those mean a lot to me. I love traveling, crafting, and spending time with my son however he chooses. Seeing him learn and grow are the current hobbies I love most!”
