“The Best for My Child”

Like most parents, Mistie is passionate about providing her student with the strongest possible education, doing everything she can to set him up for success wherever his life’s journey leads. “I wanted the best for my child,” she says, “and we have had the best school years with Utah Connections Academy.”

Mistie points to the flexibility of the curriculum as one of the key advantages, an approach to learning that adapts to her son’s unique needs in a way that wasn’t possible at his other schools. She also likes that she is involved day-to-day. “I’m able to be more hands-on with my child’s education,” she says.

Her student’s favorite subjects are science and history. He also loves being an active member of the National Honors Society. However, Mistie says that his biggest improvements have been in his social skills. “As a mom, I would say I’ve noticed … the social interactions he has with fellow classmates,” she says. The personal relationships he has created through school have “helped him further develop and understand social settings with others.”

“My son has wonderful relationships with all of his teachers and staff!”

An Extended Family

As a student with autism, Mistie’s son needs extra support. At Utah Connections Academy, the level of personalized attention has been even greater than Mistie could’ve hoped for. “My son has wonderful relationships with all of his teachers and staff,” she says, adding that “his classmates are the best.”

Throughout her experience at Utah Connections Academy, Mistie has felt a sense of community and warmth that she hadn’t experienced at previous schools, not only for her son, but for her as well. “Our whole family has a wonderful relationship with the school,” she says. “It is an extended family to us.”
