How does Oregon online public school work?

Oregon students who enroll in Oregon online public school can learn from home via an internet connection. They study and complete online lessons independently, with parents acting as Learning Coaches. Students also communicate regularly with Oregon-certified teachers by phone, secure email, and in real time in the virtual classroom for review and instruction.

Parents work closely with their child’s online school teachers to develop an individualized learning plan that makes the most of the student’s natural abilities and bolsters any areas of weakness. The plan is updated regularly, or as often as needed, to maximize the student’s potential and help them succeed.

What K-12 Oregon online school options do students have?

Families that wish to educate their children at home can enroll in an Oregon online public school for a high-quality K-12 option that meets state standards for teachers and curriculum. Oregon Connections Academy is a K-5 option that is sponsored by the Prairie City School District and is available for students who reside in Oregon.  Willamette Connections Academy is an option that’s sponsored by Scio School District and is available for students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state.

How much does Oregon online school cost?

Students who live anywhere in Oregon can attend Oregon online public school for free. There is no tuition, and texts and other learning materials are included. Depending on the student’s grade level, texts may be actual books or digital books.

Is there an online elementary school Oregon students can attend?

Oregon online school is available for grades K-12. In elementary grades, students can attend and enjoy learning from the comfort and safety of home, with parent involvement. Online elementary school students have a more flexible learning schedule, so parents can arrange the school day with breaks for relaxation, exercise, and play.

Is there a K-12 online school Oregon recommends?

Is online school the same as Oregon homeschool programs?

Students who attend online school do learn from home, but it’s not the same as traditional homeschool. Unlike homeschool, attending Oregon online public school does not mean that parents do the teaching. Students work with Oregon-certified teachers who have special training in making online teaching fun, engaging, and effective.

Online school also provides families with access to Oregon-approved curriculum that’s online, with lessons already planned and texts provided. When they graduate, students earn an official Oregon high school diploma and do not need to take the GED® high school equivalency test that traditional homeschoolers take.
