Learning Coach

Rozanna Eckstein is the mother and Learning Coach to Hailey, a student at Willamette Connections Academy The Ecksteins enrolled Hailey in Willamette Connections Academy when she was in Kindergarten because they wanted her to experience public school, but wanted to be more involved in her education than what a traditional brick-and-mortar school would allow. She shares her family’s story below:

“We wanted to give our child the best educational opportunity that met both of our needs when she started Kindergarten. We wanted to be involved in her education, but also wanted to provide her with the benefits of a traditional public school, so we chose Willamette Connections Academy. We had no idea how well this program would benefit our child and family.

What I love about Willamette Connections Academy is that I don’t have to come up with my own curriculum like a I would have in a traditional homeschool situation. She can get help from actual teachers who are trained in the subjects she is learning.

What works best for us is the flexibility. My child is active in our local community theater. She’s able to get a fabulous education while also being an active part of her theater family. The flexible school schedule and due dates give her the opportunity to work ahead, so she can work on shows during the school year. She’s able to balance her education and do something she loves without the two overlapping and causing issues.

My favorite Learning Coach activity is just being able to be involved with my child’s education. She enjoys when I read some of the textbook work to her and we both love the chance to learn American Sign Language together. It’s nice to have that bond with my child.

We are able to stay connected to what matters most while learning online. I stay connected with my student’s teachers either through phone calls or Webmails. Her teachers are great about getting back to me quickly. My student stays connected with friends via social media, playing online games, or just chatting together on the phone.

Connections Academy has built confidence in my child. She has struggled with anxiety her entire life. Now, she’s able to move along at her own pace, which makes a huge difference in her life. I know this program works for her. She gets her work done and gets good grades. We see how happy she is with being able to work at her own pace and actually learn the subject without getting lost. Online school isn’t for every student or family, but it works for us and we are so thankful.”
