Oregon Connections Academy is proud to be one of only four online schools across the nation to offer the Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program in a virtual environment. It is AVID’s mission to ensure that all students, especially the least-served students in the academic middle, are capable of completing a college preparatory path. The AVID program is available for Oregon Connections Academy students in middle school and high school grades.
AVID is designed for students who would like to prepare for four-year colleges and universities, and has been proven successful. Among students enrolled in AVID programs, 93 percent complete the entrance requirements of four-year colleges, and 90 percent of those who apply to four-year colleges are accepted.
Taught by trained AVID teachers using AVID-specific curriculum, students benefit academically from the AVID elective course because it is designed to support students through increased school-wide learning and performance. The course helps students develop the skills they need to succeed in college-readiness classes by focusing on writing skills, critical reading, collaboration, organization, time management, goal setting, career and college research, volunteerism, funding college through grants, scholarships and loan options.
