Stephanie Smeja
8th grade American History Teacher
Stephanie Smeja began teaching in 2010 and joined her first Connections Academy school in 2018. She became part of Missouri Connections Academy in 2023, where she now teaches 8th grade American History. In her role, Ms. Smeja supports students across the state while helping them grow through a flexible and engaging online learning experience.
Why I Became a Teacher
I love learning and reading, especially about history, but I was also a very shy student, so I struggled with the challenges that came with it. I want all students to feel comfortable in school, even if it means that the way they experience school looks a little different.
The Online School Experience
I love that I can connect with students from all over Missouri without being limited by geography. Being able to spend dedicated time working with individual families and students and building connections can’t be beat.
To support student learning, I like to take opportunities to gamify learning in LiveLesson® sessions. Platforms like Nearpod, Blooket, or Gimkit can offer a unique way for students to access and practice learning in a relaxed environment.
Missouri Connections Academy students have access to a comprehensive curriculum and amazing teachers to support them every step of the way. Students have the freedom and flexibility to work at a pace that suits them while still having access to school events like clubs and field trips. Parents have access to real time grading updates, lesson content, and a plethora of valuable information to help provide their student with the best support possible!
Outside the Classroom
I like to spend time outside gardening, hiking, or just enjoying the sunshine.
“Missouri Connections Academy provides an excellent way to allow students the flexibility to do school in a way that works for them, with the structure and support of dedicated and caring teachers and staff.”
