Candice Brown is a dedicated Spanish teacher at Missouri Connections Academy. She began her teaching career in 2004 and joined Missouri Connections Academy in 2025. Over her many years of teaching middle school and high school Spanish, she has supported students in ways that sometimes lead to life-changing experiences, including inspiring one student to pursue travel and language learning abroad. She brings her passion for the Spanish language and culture to her students each day while helping them thrive in a flexible online learning environment.

Why I Became a Teacher

I became a teacher because it is my calling. I love to teach people new things, I love Spanish, and I enjoy seeing students learn and grow. Positive and caring teachers are a rewarding part of my work at Missouri Connections Academy, and I feel that helping students understand and connect with the content is also one of the most rewarding parts of teaching online.

How I Developed My Love for Spanish

I first began learning Spanish as a teenager and later spent 5½ weeks studying in Monterrey, Mexico. Since then, I have traveled with students abroad to several countries including Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. In the summer of 2015, I traveled to Panama and worked with missionaries as their translator in Panama City, Panama. Learning a foreign language has not always been easy, but it has opened doors I never expected. I encourage students to keep trying each day, even when it feels challenging. ¡Buena suerte!

The Online School Experience

Teachers at Missouri Connections Academy really care about their students. Weekly phone contacts encourage teacher student relationships, and I love that students have the flexibility to pick and choose different elective classes each semester. It gives students a sense of ownership and responsibility.

My favorite classroom activity is playing Gimkit because the game is a positive experience for students while they answer questions over material in a competitive atmosphere.

“I love that students and teachers are given flexibility to create and prioritize their schedules each day.”
