Eri & Tofumi
Elementary Students
Eri is a fourth-grade student at Missouri Connections Academy, and his younger brother, Tofumi, is enrolled in the third grade. Both students are thriving within an online learning environment that accommodates their individual needs and interests. Their mother, Esther, explains how virtual schooling has positively influenced their family's experience.
Our Family’s Story
We enrolled all our children in Missouri Connections Academy because the flexible schedule enables them to learn at their own pace and focus more on subjects they love. Online school gives us more control over our learning schedule, which has been great for balancing academics with other activities and family time. We also wanted to provide the kids with a personalized learning experience that caters to their individual needs. Missouri Connections Academy offers a supportive learning environment with high‑quality, engaging courses.
Finding the Right Fit
Before joining Missouri Connections Academy, Tofumi attended a brick and mortar elementary school in our local school district, but it was not a good fit for him. He struggled socially, experienced bullying, and was often picked on for reasons that were unclear. Transitioning to Missouri Connections Academy has been life changing for him. Learning from the comfort and safety of our home has removed the stress of bullying and unnecessary distractions, allowing him to focus on his education.
Our Online School Experience
Making the transition to online learning required a few adjustments for our family. We had to create a structured daily routine to maintain a balance between schoolwork and free time. We also set up a dedicated learning space free from distractions to make sure the kids stay engaged and motivated.
As a family, we are now actively involved in our children’s academic journey. We closely monitor their progress, support their growth, and ensure they stay motivated to improve. Being surrounded by people who love and support them has had a positive impact on their confidence and encourages them to do their best every day.
Both boys have developed strong, supportive relationships with their teachers. Their teachers are always available to guide and assist them throughout their learning journey, and they take the time to ensure each child feels supported academically and emotionally.
Proud Moments
Tofumi enjoys math, language arts, science, social studies, and the Gaming and Technology club. He is intelligent, goal oriented, and self‑motivated, with a consistently positive attitude toward his studies and life in general.
Eri enjoys coding, language arts, science, and reading. He deeply loves his family and enjoys exploring nature through various adventures. In recognition of his hard work and outstanding participation in class, his teacher, Ms. Burkemper, nominated him as one of Missouri Connections Academy’s Spotlight Students for the month of October.
"We appreciate the strong support from teachers and their ability to tailor the experience to meet each child’s learning needs. Being more involved in our children’s day‑to‑day education has led to positive changes for our family."
