High School Teacher

BS, Secondary English

Azia Raju is an education technology teacher at Lighthouse Connections Academy. She started teaching in 2016 and joined our school in 2019. Ms. Raju earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary English. She shares her teaching journey below:

"I became a teacher because I had amazing teachers! One teacher in elementary school was so patient and really took the time to know who I was. Later, I found out who I was by interacting with my high school English teacher. She was instrumental in my journey and encouraged me to love who I was and the things I could do.

Our teachers work together to educate each student and tend to their individual needs. We can share the strengths and struggles of different students to help other teachers understand each student.

— Ms. Raju

I also realized at an early age that literature is a vehicle that can take you places. It expands your understanding of different cultures. It helps you talk to more people when you’ve read the things they’ve read. Language can open up social circles and experiences you might not otherwise have access to. I want to open those doors for others the way they were opened for me. I love teaching at Lighthouse Connections Academy because students get more personalized, one-on-one instruction that’s unique to their needs. The benefit of teaching at an online school versus a brick-and-mortar school is that I get to be a mom and a teacher. If my children are sick, I am able to address the situation without the typical barriers I might have at a brick-and-mortar school.

An education at Lighthouse Connections Academy helps prepare students for a bright and successful future by allowing them learn to manage their time and understand their own educational needs, which are important skills. If there was one thing I could tell a prospective parent making the decision to enroll or just getting started in this school, it would be to call, email, or text me. I want to know what Learning Coaches need help with and how I can help your student. This is a community effort, and I am glad to be part of it. Reach out whenever you need to!”

In Ms. Raju’s spare time, she enjoys being with her family and youth group each week, cultivating and empowering them to do things they never thought they could. She loves seeing the ways the kids help others and surprise people by how much the under-18 folks can do to impact the world!
