Preparing Online School Students for Graduation in Michigan
Lighthouse Connections Academy works closely with families to ensure that students understand graduation requirements in Michigan and have the support they need to fulfill those requirements. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom—long after graduation.
Students who attend online school and meet Michigan graduation requirements receive the same diploma as their peers who attend brick-and-mortar public schools in the state.

How Many Credits Do You Need to Graduate High School in Michigan?
Students must successfully earn a minimum of 22 credits to graduate and participate in state tests. Be sure to check your school handbook for updates. The course credits required to graduate are included below.
Lighthouse Connections Academy High School Credit Requirements
- Language arts: 4 credits
- Math: 4 credits (including Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II). 1 math credit MUST occur in the students graduating year
- Science: 3 credits (including Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and an additional science credit)
- Social studies: 3 credits (including U.S. History, World History, Economics and Government)
- Health and physical education: 1 credit
- Fine arts: 1 credit
- World language*: 2 credits
- *Must be two years of the same language. Students can elect to take one year of World Language and two years of VPAA.
