Keeping Online School Students Connected

Although students at Iowa Connections Academy (IACA) attend classes from the comfort of their own homes, they remain connected through our virtual school community. With regular instruction via LiveLessonⓇ sessions, students have the opportunity to interact with each other in a virtual space, allowing them to learn together, share ideas, compare experiences, and get to know each other. A variety of interactive activities and clubs are available, and  students are able to decide what level of social interaction they feel most comfortable with and participate accordingly.

In addition to online LiveLesson sessions, IACA offers a variety of ways for our students to connect, including online school clubs, special school events, and field trips. Through these opportunities for socialization, students form friendships with other students and explore the world around them. This helps them gain confidence and develop skills in communication, leadership, and teamwork. Not to mention that these activities are really fun!

Allowing Flexibility for Extracurriculars

In addition to school activities, many of our students participate in extracurricular activities within their local communities. Given the flexibility of our virtual school program, students may have more time and opportunities to get involved outside the classroom and explore interests they might not be able to engage in otherwise.

Working with Families

Families play a crucial part in the educational experience of online students. With our program, you can customize your schedule to fit your student’s needs and personal interests, whether that includes performing arts, sports, volunteer work, or other pursuits.

As Learning Coaches, parents play a huge role in their student’s education, helping keep them on track while maintaining constant communication with teachers.

Whether online or in person, families can easily connect with school counselors, teachers, community coordinators, and other parents through:

  • Online Learning Coach training and open houses
  • Secure Message Boards where they can ask advice and share tips and resources to help students succeed
  • The Virtual Learning Connections blog, which offers a wealth of information for virtual schooling families
  • Our network of IACA parents, Club ORANGE

Participating in the Online Learning Community at Large

At IACA, our students are engaged members of our virtual school community. In addition to participating in activities and extracurriculars, IACA students’ Learning Coaches and community coordinators work together throughout Iowa to put together volunteer activities and get kids active in the communities they live in.
