Special Education Manager

Bachelor of Education, Elementary Education and Teaching, Lees-McRae College; Master of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Appalachian State University; Doctor of Education Candidate, Curriculum and Instruction, Liberty University

For Ms. Miller, the decision to become an educator was an easy one. “I have always had a passion for seeing other individuals set goals and achieve them,” she explains. She values the impact she can have in the lives of students—impact that extends well past their years in school. “Education is the conduit for success in life,” she says. “I knew that I wanted to open that door to anyone who was willing to enter.”

Part of a Collaborative Community

Ms. Miller is relatively new to Great Lakes Learning Academy, joining the faculty in January of 2023. It didn’t take long for her to realize how committed her fellow educators are to the success of the school, and how consistently and effectively they collaborate with all members of the school’s community.

“The level of communication between parents, teachers, and students at Great Lakes Learning Academy is unmatched!” Ms. Miller says proudly. “All members of the team come together to problem-solve and ensure that students are receiving the best education possible.”

One-on-One Engagement

Like many members of the Great Lakes Learning Academy faculty, Ms. Miller has first-hand experience at brick-and-mortar schools. She appreciates the advantages that virtual learning offers, including the flexible curriculum that can accommodate each student’s specific learning needs and particular life circumstances.

As an educator, however, it is the “opportunities for one-on-one engagement” that she values most, and the impact she personally can have on students. “I love seeing students figure out a way to make virtual education work for them,” she says. “I see them flourishing and succeeding.”
