Khloe F.
High School Student
Khloe is in tenth grade at our school and is a highly accomplished competitive ice dancer. She joined Great Lakes Learning Academy because our flexible approach to education enables her to train on weekdays and travel for competitions. According to Khloe, “Traveling internationally is why we came to this school.”
More Flexibility, Less Stress
“I started skating when I was three years old and have won 14 national medals. I’ve made it to nationals a few times … and won the gold medal for dance at the national championships in Florida. The Netherlands was my first international competition.”
What surprised Khloe most about our school is “how flexible everyone is. It’s made everything so much easier … If I’m going to be traveling for a competition, I can work ahead, so while I’m gone, I don’t have to worry about anything being late.”
“At my old school we had a lot of problems with attendance because of my traveling … It was really stressful to focus on school and skating. The big competitions are stressful enough, so being able to space out my schoolwork helps.”
Skating Toward College
Khloe said, “I really appreciate this school. The program is amazing … Everything here quickly made sense — the work, the grades, being able to see everything.
My teachers are great. If I have questions, it’s easy to get in contact with them … and they answer so quickly when I send a webmail. … A lot of the teachers offer corrections, and that helps a lot. … I’m learning more here than in my brick-and-mortar school.”
What are Khloe’s goals for the future? “After graduation I want to keep solo dance skating. I think I could go really far. I have high hopes of competing in the Olympics. I want to go to college and maybe find an intercollegiate ice dancing program.”
“The flexibility of this school makes things less stressful. … I love Great Lakes Learning Academy because of the flexibility and the staff.”
