High School
Muaz is a senior at South Carolina Connections Academy and founder of the local nonprofit organization Hayat Institute.
When his local mosque leader moved away, Muaz felt the urge to help his community by organizing different events — so he created the Hayat Institute. The nonprofit’s first event was a soccer tournament for Muslim youth, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. According to Muaz, “Over the next few months, I hosted several impactful programs. One big event was during Ramadan. We held a program in downtown Greenville giving out information about [the holiday].”
Muaz has big hopes for Hayat Institute and is taking steps to grow it while succeeding in his final year at our school. He reports, “We’re planning a 5-week program for Muslim youth called Youth Career Compass 2023. We’ll have speakers from different jobs like engineering, healthcare, computers, business, and academia.”
We are proud of you, Muaz. Your leadership and dedication are admirable. We can’t wait to see your continued success.

“South Carolina Connections Academy helped me work on my nonprofit and succeed in school at the same time.”
