There are currently two online schools in Florida for families to choose from.

Enrolls students in grades K–11. The school will expand to offer twelfth grade in 2022-23.

Authorized by Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Provides live, teacher-led instruction in group and one-on-one settings.

Offers a safe, supportive way to attend school from home for Florida students.

Virtual school is just a different term for online school. Whichever term you use, this form of educating students from home is widely available throughout Florida.

Online school in Florida is completely tuition-free, and that’s because it is offered as part of the public school system. Students use a Florida-approved curriculum, so they’re assured of receiving the same high-quality education as their peers who attend traditional schools. They work remotely with Florida-certified teachers.
Florida online school also provides all texts and learning materials that students will use for free. Some texts may be physical books, while others may be digital or e-books.

Students enrolled in a Florida online school (also known as virtual school) must meet the same Florida graduation requirements as students who attend brick-and-mortar public schools. They’re also required to take standardized testing. High school students attending online school in Florida must earn 24 credits to graduate, and they work with licensed school counselors to include required courses.

Florida Connections Academy and Coastal Connections Academy are excellent online high schools Florida students can choose for a college-preparatory program or for a career-focused program—or both! Working with licensed school counselors, online school students can develop an appropriate plan for achieving their post–high school goals.
Both schools offer a complete range of courses that meet state standards established by the Florida Department of Education. Honors courses and Advanced Placement®* courses are available for students who want their transcripts to reflect their interest in college-level studies.
At Florida Connections Academy, online career and technical education (CTE) courses are also available for students who wish to explore a career field that holds their interest or start to acquire career skills while still in online high school.
