Beth Hayes started teaching in 1996 and joined Rhode Island Connections Academy in 2021. She currently teaches second- and third-grade language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Why I Became an Educator
I tried a number of different jobs when I first got out of school. One day, a friend said I would make a good teacher so I thought I would try to find out more. From the first day of the first class I took, I knew it was the right decision for me. Teaching children is the best job I have ever had.
The Online School Experience at Rhode Island Connections Academy
I love my RhoCA colleagues and everyone I have met at the other Connection Academy® schools and at Pearson. People are very committed to doing what is right for children. They are friendly, caring, and always want to be part of the solution.
Many of my students are looking for a chance to interact with me and with each other. We always leave a little time for casual conversation about what is going on in their lives. I have found that mixing in a few fun and interactive learning games really promotes engagement and interaction.
The technology we use and ability to plan out your work are skills that are part of most of our careers these days, so students are well-prepared for the next stage in life.
Message for Families Considering Online School
This is the right place for so many children. It might be new for your family, so know that it will take some time to get set up and learn everything. But there is ALWAYS someone to help! And when you are all set up, it is fabulous!!!
My Interests
I live with my husband and have two grown daughters and twin grandsons who are 3. I love spending time with my whole family! I also love to sail and spend as much time as possible on the water in the summer. My hobby right now is helping a friend who is building a wooden boat.
