Victoria Rader is an middle school student at Reach Cyber Charter School (Reach Cyber). Though she attends school online, she has even more time to socialize with her friends in Girl Scouts and horseback riding. Since enrolling, her grades have improved and Victoria has more ownership of her learning. Below, Victoria shares what works best for her about attending Reach Cyber.
“I used to attend a local public school, but I found the classroom and other students to be too distracting. My mom started looking into Pennsylvania cyber schools as an option for me. We attended the Reach Cyber information session in our neighborhood, where I learned all about the school. Their curriculum and LiveLesson® sessions seemed perfect for what I needed. What really got me excited about Reach Cyber, though, was their STEM focus! I love STEM activities, so I really looked forward to what Reach would offer.
Reach Cyber is also great because I have a relaxed schedule. I can choose the order in which I take my lessons. Math is my favorite subject because I love a challenge. The math lessons include written instruction, videos, hands-on activities, and practice problems, which really help me understand what is being taught. I love my teachers at Reach Cyber because they are all friendly and really care about me as a person and a student. If I have questions, they are always quick to help me. With my teachers, I don’t feel like I’m just a face in the crowd.

I love horseback riding and want to become an equestrian jumper. Thanks to Reach Cyber, I can take riding lessons during the week because of the relaxed schedule. I have made friends at my group horseback riding lessons, Girl Scout meetings, and local cyber school/homeschool events. I get to spend a lot of time with my friends there instead of the few minutes we’d have during recess in my old school. We call each other on the phone, text message, and sometimes video chat on social media through our moms’ accounts. We also get together as often as possible in person.
At my old school, I dealt with bullies every year. The teachers would often get frustrated with the class. I had to stop working on lessons when the bell would ring, even when I was really interested in something we were learning. I’d be lucky to have enough time to finish my lunch after I got through the long lunch line. Recess was only fifteen minutes long, but most of the time I’d have to stay in because I didn’t finish my busywork that morning. During class, I’d be made to wait if I had to use the bathroom or needed a drink of water. Reach Cyber is the complete opposite! There are no bullies, no dress code, and no busywork or homework! I can take breaks whenever I need to. I don’t have to ask permission to use the bathroom or get a drink. I can play as long as I want for recess, and sometimes we visit different playgrounds in the area. The teachers are friendly, and I can always easily get help when I need it. I used to hate going to school every day, but now I can’t wait to start my lessons each morning!”
