The Pennwood Cyber Charter School Board will be applying to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to start a public cyber charter school for the 2024–25 school year. To make this exceptional opportunity possible, we need the support of Pennsylvania families, students and the community. Whether you know someone who has benefitted from a high-quality online education, or you are interested in availing yourself (or students) to this opportunity in the future, please sign our Statement of Support and let policymakers know that Pennsylvania needs this unique option!
Pennwood Cyber Charter School (Pennwood) will serve students statewide in grades K–12 and implement an award-winning, standards-aligned curriculum focusing on and supporting academic achievement for all students. Our mission is to empower students to meet their unique educational and life goals through flexible pacing, college preparatory programming, and practical career skills development.
Igniting a Passion for Virtual Learning
Pennwood Cyber Charter School will afford Pennsylvania families access to a cyber-school option with the following:
- High-Quality Curriculum – Our curriculum and instruction will meet standards at the state and national level while also integrating the best materials, texts, and resources available.
- Exceptional Teachers – Experts in online learning and online learning protocols. Teachers will be PA-certified and will be trained to excel in online teaching.
- Individualized Learning – Each student has unique abilities and performs better when receiving individualized attention in a nurturing learning environment, and this will be a core concept at Pennwood.
- Parent-Supported Learning – A parent, guardian, or other responsible adult will serve as their student’s virtual school Learning Coach, choosing to be closely involved in their child’s daily education and taking on an active role in supporting and encouraging their child.
- Easy-to-Use Technology – Laptops and Internet access will be provided to each student. Through the Education Management System (EMS), an online learning platform, parents/guardians and students can easily access curriculum, review grades, and schedule lessons.
- College and Career-Readiness – Each student will develop a readiness to succeed beyond high school in a dynamic and changing world.
Students and families will benefit from the best practices developed from this proven core model of virtual learning over the past 20 years. Pennwood will also provide students with a unique badging and credentialing experience where students can learn a new skill and work on career-readiness.
