Penny Britt teaches the business education and educational technology courses for middle school grades at North Carolina Connections Academy. She graduated cum laude from Appalachian State University with a major in business education and a minor in computer information systems. She began her teaching career with Connections Academy in 2015. Below, Ms. Britt shares what she loves about the school:
“I became a teacher because I love to help other people and I wanted to do something to give back. I enjoy having a career that makes a difference. I have taught in an online school as well as a traditional bricks-and-mortar school, and the benefit of teaching at an online school is that I am able to offer a different model at any time, versus only forty-five minutes of the day. I also enjoy getting to know my students and seeing them grow as the year progresses.
The teachers and administration at Connections Academy are constantly working together for the good of the student. We are special because we care and work very hard to ensure students succeed. For example, my computer classes relate to what students are learning in science or history. This allows the students to gain knowledge of the same subject material in both courses but in different modes. I am amazed at the excellent work I have seen produced by our students. I love online learning!”
Outside of teaching, Ms. Britt also enjoys photography and volunteering with a local sea turtle patrol. She also spends time with her family and takes walks on the beach with her Labrador, Canyon.
