Test Scores Show South Carolina Connections Academy Students Ready for Workforce
Online school students earn top marks on ACT WorkKeys test; 11th graders’ ACT results place among top four composite scores in the district
Columbia, S.C. (Nov. 4, 2015) – ACT testing results are in, and, according to recent state tests measuring students’ college and career readiness, students at South Carolina Connections Academy are fully prepared to take their next steps after high school. High school students at the online public school, which serves students in grades K-12 across the state, earned high marks in both the ACT WorkKeys test and the ACT exam.
According to ACT WorkKeys test results, 89.8 percent of South Carolina Connections Academy students earned scores that were high enough to earn ACT's National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT NCRC), a designation of readiness to enter the workforce. This portable credential certifies skills needed for workplace success, and helps future jobseekers display evidence of their skills to potential employers. In addition, two students from South Carolina Connections Academy achieved the platinum level designation of the ACT NCRC, the highest possible credential level. The ACT WorkKeys test measures students’ foundational and soft skills through assessments in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information areas.
South Carolina Connections Academy 11th graders also took the ACT exam, one of two national tests used to assess academic readiness for college. The online school students’ ACT composite scores place them among the top four composite scores in the South Carolina Public Charter School District, a statewide district representing over 30 schools.
“This year’s test results are a testament to the hard work of our students and teachers, and the quality of our online program,” said Amanda Ebel, the school’s Executive Director. “This was the first year we administered these tests, and are so proud of our students’ success.”
South Carolina Connections Academy is in its eighth year of providing high-quality, personalized online education to South Carolina students, and currently serves approximately 3,700 students throughout the state. The school continues to enroll students for the 2015-2016 school year, and online information sessions are being held for families interested in learning about the school’s flexible online program and individualized approach to education.
