May 1, 2019 (Wabasha, MN) – Falcon View Connections Academy, a new full-time statewide online public school, has been authorized by the Wabasha-Kellogg School District to serve students in grades K-12 throughout the state. The school will begin serving students in grades K–10 in the upcoming 2019-20 school year, and expand to serve students in grades K–12 during its second year of operation.
“Wabasha-Kellogg School District is committed to offering a high-quality learning option to students who need a personalized, flexible education due to academic or nonacademic needs,” said Jim Freihammer, Wabasha-Kellogg School District Superintendent. “Our school board is extremely excited to support this important mission with the creation of Falcon View Connections Academy, an option available to students statewide."
Falcon View Connections Academy will offer students throughout Minnesota an individualized approach to education in a safe, supportive online learning environment. Curriculum, from the nationally recognized, award-winning Connections Academy® program, meets rigorous state education standards, and will include core classes as well as engaging electives, honors and AP courses, and Career Technical Education (CTE) classes.
Learning from home or anywhere there is an Internet connection, students will work closely with Minnesota-certified teachers specially trained in online instruction. Teachers will develop individualized learning plans that help to nurture each student’s strengths while providing additional support in areas of need. Students will also benefit from real-time feedback and customized schedules, ensuring each student has the opportunity to learn in a way that’s best-suited for them. Outside of schoolwork, students can make friends and socialize through numerous online clubs and activities and at in-person field trips and school events.

An online school approach can serve a wide range of students, including those who are significantly ahead or behind in the classroom, those who need a flexible schedule or learn at a different pace from their peers, and those who need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. Homebound and previously home-schooled students can also thrive in the Falcon View Connections Academy program. A parent, or another adult “Learning Coach,” helps to monitor student progress in the home.
As a public school, there are no fees or tuition to attend and all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional public school students.
Falcon View Connections Academy is currently enrolling students statewide in grades K–10 for the upcoming 2019-20 school year. Families interested in enrolling who reside outside of the Wabasha-Kellogg School District will need to submit an Open Enrollment Application to the district indicating their enrollment intent, as well as begin the enrollment process with Falcon View Connections Academy. More information about enrollment can be found on the school’s website.
In preparation for its inaugural academic year, the school will establish an office near the Twin Cities and hire a school leader and team of certified teachers.
