May 20, 2021 Englewood, Colo. – Colorado Summit Connections Academy, the state’s newest online public school, is now enrolling students in grades K-12 for the 2021-22 school year. Recently authorized by Education reEnvisioned BOCES, the school joins the experienced Colorado Connections Academy family of online public schools, which has been delivering a high-quality online education built specifically for the virtual environment for nearly 20 years.
As an online public school, Colorado Summit Connections Academy will provide students with the continuous support of state-certified teachers and curriculum that focuses on both academics and social-emotional learning. Teachers will be specially trained to bring their skills and personality to the virtual classroom and emphasize the importance of fostering meaningful connections with students and their families. Learning plans are flexible and can be uniquely tailored to meet the specific needs and abilities of each student to help them gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a changing world.
“Each child is unique, and now, more than ever, having education options is vital for families to find the best learning environment for their student,” said Colorado Connections Academy School Leader, Darla Gardner. “During my 21 years as an educator, I have seen how students thrive in a supportive, nurturing and flexible online learning environment. I have even witnessed my own children find success as graduates from Connections Academy schools.”
A virtual school approach serves a wide range of students representing a variety of backgrounds and education histories. Some students are academically advanced and struggle in a traditional school setting, while some prefer to learn at their own pace. Other students may be experiencing health challenges or bullying, while other are athletes or performers who require a flexible learning schedule.
With Colorado Summit Connections Academy, parents will be core members of their child’s learning team and are an integral part of how online school works. As Learning Coaches, parents will help teachers provide the support and structure their students need by setting daily routines, ensuring attendance and that their student’s work is complete.
Colorado Summit Connections Academy joins two other Connections Academy full-time online schools in the state: Colorado Connections Academy @ Mapleton, authorized by Mapleton Public Schools, which opened in 2002, and Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango, authorized by the Durango Public School District 9-R, which opened in 2016. All three schools utilize the award-winning Connections Academy curriculum and are open to students in grades K-12 statewide regardless of where they live in Colorado. This network of schools serves over 4,800 students and all share a common goal – to ensure that students become productive, successful and confident in school and in life.
“We want to ensure that all students across the state of Colorado have access to a new high-quality online school option,” said Ken Witt, Executive Director of Education reEnvisioned BOCES. “We chose to partner with Connections Academy for their expertise and long-standing reputation in Colorado of educating students in the online environment and preparing them with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a changing world.”
At Colorado Summit Connections Academy, students will have access to advanced courses, extracurricular activities and flexible scheduling that helps them to take ownership of their own unique educational journey. Students who enroll in the school will join a collaborative community of their fellow students and educators that provides a welcoming, distraction-free learning environment.
