Debbie Vigil is a middle school history teacher at New Mexico Connections Academy (NMCA). She loves teaching history and has been teaching for over twenty years. Ms. Vigil has been a part of NMCA since 2015. She has a bachelor’s degree in education from the College of Santa Fe. She has also received the New Mexico Middle School Teacher of the Year Award and was selected for the New Mexico Social Studies Dream Team to create an online curriculum for New Mexico history teachers.
Ms. Vigil’s goal is to instill her passion for history in all her students. She provides opportunities for them to participate in a historical walking tour in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she dresses in historic costume and shares stories and facts with them. She also invites students to show community support through writing letters of appreciation to our country’s veterans for Veterans Day.
Ms. Vigil enjoys teaching at NMCA because she has students all over New Mexico. She believes that NMCA is a good choice for many students because they enjoy the freedom and flexibility to complete their schoolwork on their own schedule. This is especially true for students who are involved in extracurricular activities ranging from sports to choir to rodeo. Parents choosing to enroll their students at NMCA also know that it is a safe learning environment.
