Allison Thomas

Alison Thomas is a primary school teacher at Nevada Connections Academy (NCA). She started teaching in 2009. Ms. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and a teacher certification from Western Governors University. She plans to complete her master’s degree in reading and literacy at American Public University. She shares her story below.

"I became a teacher because I want to make a difference in the lives of children. I love spending my day helping kids build their foundation and love for learning. The moment the ‘learning light bulb’ turns on, my day brightens! I teach kindergarten and first grade at NCA. My students learn language arts, math, science, social studies, educational technology, art, music, and physical education.

I love teaching for Nevada Connections Academy because the program allows me to provide a unique learning experience for each one of my students. The individualized approach and tools that are offered really set Connections Academy apart from other schools. The reason I like teaching in an online school is because there are fewer distractions. When I’m talking to a student on the phone or in our LiveLesson® room, my attention is devoted to him or her. A student doesn’t have to compete with other students for my attention, as is often the case in a bricks-and-mortar setting. Also, if you want to play an active role in your child’s education, we’re the school for you!"
