High School Teacher

Bachelor of Science, Biology, Oakland University

Pegi currently teaches high school science at Lighthouse Connections Academy starting in 2020. Mrs. Kalaja shares more below.

Why I Became a Teacher

My family immigrated to the US when I was only 4 years old. Learning English and trying to keep up was incredibly challenging. My own teachers supported me and worked diligently to shape who I am as a person today. To be able to make such a significant impact on someone's life is incredible. Who wouldn't want to do the same for others?

I love teaching at Lighthouse Connections Academy mainly because of the staff and students. Everyone has become like family.

The Online School Experience at Lighthouse Connections Academy

An education at Lighthouse Connections Academy is special! Students are prepared for a bright and successful future because they are taught accountability. Our students work on their own time and self-pace their daily schedules to meet their individual needs. To be able to set aside time for schoolwork takes patience and discipline. If a student can learn to do that at an early age, they will excel in higher education and the workforce!

Lighthouse Connections Academy allows me to connect with students at a more personal level and get to know their diverse and individual needs.

Message for Prospective Families Choosing Online School

Our school community is special because each and every one of our students is noticed. Teachers work hard to meet student needs and fill in the gaps when needed. Each student is given the love and care they require to succeed.

Hobbies and Interests

Outside of being a teacher, I am a full-time mom to two amazing boys. I enjoy spending time with my family, nature, walks, beaches, and a good book. Whenever I do get a minute to myself, you will most likely find me glued to a book.
