Jordan Courter started teaching in 2016 and joined Lighthouse Connections Academy in 2021, where he teaches math to students in sixth grade. His most rewarding moments here are when he can connect with students both personally and in their education.
Why I Became a Teacher
I’ve wanted to be a teacher ever since high school. It started with helping classmates with their math homework. I liked math because I’m logical and analytical. I’d rather read numbers than words. In college, I learned there’s more to education than just the curriculum, especially the importance of building relationships. I was put in the best possible position to become the best educator I can be. After teaching at brick-and-mortar schools, I chose to get into online education and have never looked back.
The Online School Experience at Lighthouse Connections Academy
I believe a relationship needs to be developed with each student to create a positive and effective educational environment. I love teaching online because I get more opportunities to engage with students on a personal level. Every student is at a different place in their learning, and being online gives me more time to help them individually.
One way I foster student involvement with what I’m teaching is through a wonderful platform called Nearpod. It’s a program and lesson tool that not only fosters engagement, it helps me see my students’ thought processes.

Hobbies and Interests
I love to watch and play sports, mostly football and basketball (Go Blue!) I also love video games and have all the most current systems. I like to hang out with my friends and my wife on camping trips, and I love finding the next TV show to binge!
