Why I Became a Teacher

I love teaching. Before coming to Lighthouse Connections Academy, I taught grades 1st–5th at the Montessori School of Westminster in Maryland; fifth grade at Wesleyan Christian School in Maryland; and sixth grade at Crossroads Charter School in Michigan.

I enjoy meeting with students one-on-one in check-ins and LiveLesson® sessions. I also like fostering student engagement, and I do this in LiveLesson® meetings, on the phone, and in small groups. Students love seeing each other and interacting. In kindergarten, they’re learning how to respond to a new school experience and how to communicate with classmates. I think it’s important to give students the opportunity to get to know each other by asking them fun questions, allowing them to talk, and encouraging them to interact.

The Online School Experience at Lighthouse Connections Academy

For students to be successful here, everyone—the students, Learning Coaches, teachers, administrators—must be in communication and have complete buy-in to the program. Students and Learning Coaches should hopefully see this program as a huge opportunity and component in their student’s careers, and take every opportunity that comes their way.

There are so many resources this school provides that help students be successful. Students who graduate from this school will be able to succeed in the real world, especially given their experience with technology and its importance.

“When I meet with each student, I give them my full attention and hopefully help them feel like they are very important.”

Message for Prospective Families Choosing Online School

Parents considering enrolling their child here should keep in mind it’s a lot of work for the student and Learning Coach. It takes time, commitment, and effort to help your child succeed. There’s so much support in our school, but you need to reach out and keep your child engaged. Keep in constant communication with the teacher to give your child the best opportunity here.

Hobbies and Interests

The time I spend with my husband, children, grandchildren, parents, friends, and siblings is most precious to me. I also love music, playing the piano, and singing in church or wherever I can. I love warm weather and enjoy being outside in the summer and indoors in the winter. I enjoy writing, have two self-published books, and I’m learning to illustrate, which is a work in progress.
