Janae

High School Student

A twelfth grader at our school, Janae is vice president of the National Honor Society and does volunteer work in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at a local hospital. There, she meets doctors, watches surgeries, and makes blankets and stuffed animals for babies and their families. Her favorite subject is Japanese.

Why Her Family Chose Lighthouse Connections Academy

According to Janae, “The main thing that interested me about this school was the flexibility I’d have, including being able to choose when I could start my day and with which subjects. …Thanks to this flexibility, I’m able to volunteer at Ascensions Providence Hospital and have met doctors and nurses who have taken me under their wing. … I’m able to receive advice from people who have already accomplished my dreams.

“I like being able to watch recordings of LiveLesson® online classroom sessions because I can take my time and fully understand the material. If I was in a brick-and-mortar school, I’d have to scramble to try take as many notes as possible, leading me to miss important information.”

Janae’s Online School Experience

“I have a good relationship with my teachers,” reports Janae. “They understand that I know what’s best for me and my learning, and they allow me to work at my own pace. However, if they see I’m a couple of lessons behind, they reach out to make sure I’m doing what I need to do to be successful in my courses.

“My most memorable experience so far at this school was being elected vice president of the National Honor Society. Hopefully, I was able to encourage other students to get out of their comfort zone to accomplish their dreams.”

“What I like most about this school is the freedom I would not have in a brick-and-mortar school due to being confined in one building for most of the day.”
